Compensation to ignored victims

Karnataka government on Monday granted 25 lakh rupees as compensation to families of 6 victims of communal violence.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said these victims were ignored because of previous BJP government's policy of discrimination. One member of each of these families, will also get a government job.

Siddaramaiah told reporters, BJP's Bommai government gave compensation only to Hindu victims. Muslims too died of communal clashes. Government should treat everyone equally.

Bommai had visited the home of slain BJP leader Praveen Nettaru, announced compensation of 25 lakh. He did not visit homes of Masood or Fazil, or announce any compensation. Only the Nettaru case was handed over to the National Investigation Agency.

"In it's actions the State government showed, that it favors only one community. And this will cause more division in society," said U T Khader, who was the Deputy Leader of Opposition, in the previous Assembly.
